Playing Hi-Lo Poker with Bitcoin

Omaha Hi-Lo poker is an exciting variant of the game in that it offers large pots. It goes by many other names including Omaha 8 or Better, Omaha H/L or Omaha High Low. At the start of the round, players are dealt 4 cards face down. No other players can use those hole cards to form winning hands. Next up, 5 community cards will be dealt and they are available for all players to use. To form the best 5-card hand, players are required to use precisely 2 cards from the 4 pocket cards, in addition to 3 cards from the board.

This is precisely how a 5-card poker hand is compiled. When it comes to winnings, the pot will be split between the player having the best low hand and the player having the best high hand. This is how the name Omaha Hi-Lo came about. Note that it is possible to use different combinations of cards from the board and your hole cards to form the best 5-card hand. When you play Bitcoin Hi-Lo Poker, the game requires a qualifier of 8 or better. This means that the low hand must contain 5 cards that have a ranking of 8 or lower to win the pot.  In this variant of the game, the hands are formed in precisely the same manner as 7 Card Stud. In the event that no low hand qualifies, it will be the high hand that scoops the pot.

Rules of Bitcoin Hi-Lo Poker

The system used to rank hands in Bitcoin Hi-Lo Poker is the Ace-to-Five system, otherwise known as the California system. Since Aces always have a low ranking and flushes and straights don’t count against your hand, the best possible hand that you can form is Ace, 2, 3, 4 and 5. When you have the best-ranking low poker hand, you will be holding the nuts, and this is the aforementioned hand. The worst-ranking low-card hand is 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 and then all combinations between those two extremes will win in varying amounts. There are scores of different games that fall under the Bitcoin Hi-Lo Poker umbrella, including Mixed Omaha Hi/Lo, Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo, No Limit Omaha Hi/Lo and Limit Omaha Hi/Lo.

A game of Bitcoin Hi-Lo is really easy to get started. The button indicates who the dealer is. The player to the right of the button is known as the small blind and must make a compulsory bet. Clockwise from the small blind is the big blind. The big blind is required to post a wager twice the size of the small blind. Depending on the BTC stakes, the size of the small blind and the big blind will vary. When you play limit Omaha, the big blind and the small blind are the same size wager. The small blind will typically be half the size of the big blind, but it really depends on the buy-ins in the game. If you’re playing a game of Bitcoin Hi-Lo Poker, it is imperative to check the blind structure before buying in, so that you know exactly what to expect.

The Community Cards in Bitcoin Hi-Lo Poker

There are multiple sessions of play in Omaha Hi-Lo Poker including the Pre-Flop, the Flop, the Turn, the River, and the Showdown. In the pre-flop session, the player can raise the big blind and then have the option to raise, fold or call. The betting structure in Omaha Hi-Lo poker games varies depending on the type of game you’re playing. Next up is the Flop. These are the first 3 community cards available to players. The player to the right of the button will begin. The Turn is the fourth community card in the game and once again, the player right of the button begins. The River is the fifth and final community card and bets begin with the active player right of the button. This will also signal the final betting round. Finally, the showdown takes place if more than 1 player remains. The player who has the best high hand and/or low hand wins the pot. Sometimes this is one player and at other times, it is 2 players. At the conclusion of the game, the button moves in a clockwise fashion.

Limit, No Limit and Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Poker

Bitcoin Hi-Lo Poker is available in a limit format, a pot limit format and a no-limit format. With limit Omaha, the betting structure is predetermined. All the raises and bets are the same as the big blind. When it comes to the Turn and the River, there is a doubling of bets and raises. In Pot Limit Omaha the minimum wager is the same as the big blind. The maximum raise is the size of the pot and the minimum raise is the previous wager or the raise in the same round of play. In no limit Omaha Hi-Lo, the minimum wager is the equivalent of the big blind, and there is no maximum (your chip stack determines your maximum raise).

Other Forms of Bitcoin Hi-Lo Poker

While it is not quite a poker game, many Bitcoin Poker sites offer a Hi-Lo game which simply requires you to anticipate the rank and/or color of the next card to be drawn in a series cards. These include Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, and King. What’s nice about this game is that it is played fast and furious. Typical Bitcoin Hi-Lo Poker games have a house edge of 98.35%, and wagers begin from as little as 0.000001. There are many benefits to playing at a Bitcoin Casino, including transparency, security and fairness. All gaming outcomes are provably fair, and all results are personally verifiable. With each of these Hi-Lo games, a paytable displays cards Ace through King, and the likelihood of the next card being a high card or a low card. Other major benefits of playing Bitcoin Hi-Lo is that you get to enjoy anonymous gaming and real-money winnings.
